Pro-life

I picked abortion as a social issue important to me. I selected this topic because as a soon mother to be this option was presented to me early on in my pregnancy due to my very young age. Furthermore, my stand on abortion is pro-life. I believe that every human being deserves the right to live regardless of its form of conception or state of health. Now a days, many women use their financial state, age, form of conception and the baby’s state of health as good enough reasoning for abortion. Consequently, millions of babies are aborted every year and taken away the opportunity at life. However, other alternatives to abortion exist such as giving up the baby for adoption. Every child deserves the love of a family; as a result, if certain individuals believe parenting is not for them, then they should at least give the opportunity to another family whom would be more than happy welcoming a new member to their family. “A person’s a person no matter how small.” (Dr. Seuss)

TOMS Improving Lives

No doubt you have heard of TOMS and their campaign One for One. For every purchase of shoes another pair is donated to a child in need, but did you know TOMS does more than just donate shoes? TOMS also helps with vision, water, birth and bullying. Altogether, TOMS has restored sight to over 600,000 people, helped provide over 600,000 weeks of safe water and provided over 86 million pairs of shoes to children. Furthermore, TOMS Bag Collection was founded with the mission to help provide training for skilled birth attendants and distribute birth kits containing items that help a woman safely deliver their baby as mentioned in the article “Brand Stories: TOMS Shoes” by Taylor Getler; as a result, TOMS has supported safe birth services for over 25,000 mothers. In addition, purchases of the TOMS High Road Backpack Collection will help provide the training of school staff and crisis counselors to help prevent and respond to instances of bullying.

You can find TOMS on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. TOMS uses these platforms to promote themselves by formulating post in which they express joy or gratitude about their ability to help people around the world and then they link a product or cause-related page. This simple formula creates massive interaction among readers and possible consumers. Moreover, on their website TOMS has several sub links in which they further explain the purpose of why they choose to help the causes mentioned above and how they help them. These links found within their website can influence consumers into buying TOMS products and overall benefit individuals in need.

Connected, but alone?

Subsequent to watching “Connected, but alone?” by Sherry Turkle, one can concur to several points presented in the video. The first point I most agreed with was the with the goldilocks affect. Individuals have now gotten to state in which they want to have power over how they communicate. People now a days don’t want to over communicate or under communicate; they want to communicate just the right amount and the most effective way to do this is through technology. To illustrate, when individuals send text messages to each other they have time to compose a message in which they have control in what will be said, but when people communicate in real life they have seconds to reply confining the individual’s power of controlling the context that will be said. Consequently, true emotion, true thought and true opinion is lost through text messages. The second point I agreed with was technology is taking over verbal communication. In the past couple of years, every time I go to restaurants it never fails for me to witness couples using their phones even after their food comes out. Occasionally, they will glance back up and exchange a few words. This proves that technology has taken over individuals to the point where people can’t even interact with each other without their phones interfering. Altogether, Sherry was able to present agreeable points such as goldilocks affect and technology taking over verbal communication.

Communication Styles I Fall Under

You’ve probably heard the phrase “communication is key” over and over, but what do you do when your perceptual language does not match that of another individual’s and communication fails. The answer to that is simple, individuals should be aware of the types of communication styles mentioned in the article “These Are Six Communication Styles That Every Single Person Uses” by Stephanie Vozza and be able to identify which one they fall under. To start off, I identify myself as a thought’s language person. Thoughts language consist of facts, details and asking questions. Similarly, I am the type of person to want to identify all the elements in a situation and then communicate in an organize manner to ensure my points get across. Secondly, I identify as an action language person. Action language people get to the point and don’t have time to waste. Likewise, I don’t like to talk more than I need to and like to know all the important factors from the start. In conclusion, it is important to recognize the perceptual language you fall under. In my case, I identify myself with action and thoughts language because I like to know the facts and get straight to the point. What communication style do you fall under?

Technical Writers & Businesses

Technical writers are underrated essential factors to businesses. As implied in the article “Why is Technical Writing Important to Business?” by Infotec, technical writers are the interface between products and users making them crucial to a products success; thus, giving me a good reason to hire a technical writer. For example, let’s say I have created an amazing product that I am sure will be a hit, but I realize I need a manual outlining the functionality and instructions of my new product. I am debating whether to hire a technical writer to write the manual or to have one of my developers write it. However, writing a well-versed manual requires a specialized set of skills that requires experience and knowledge from the writer; consequently, making the technical writer the best choice. In addition, technical writers are good to hire because they reduced business costs by completing a coherent end product that match the specific needs of the product market in mind. Eventually, a well written and understood manual will result in a reduction of service calls to my technical support department saving me money. Overall, technical writers are good for businesses to ensure a product success and help reduce costs.

My future plans

My future plans consist of majoring in accounting with a minor in Spanish. As of now I am currently attending the University of North Texas at Dallas working towards both of my degrees. My future plans also consist of building my career and finding a job that can work with life and schedule. Furthermore, I plan on living a stable life next to my family and depending on my situation continue growing my family.
